Thinking about switching from MetroPCS, is SIMple better? If so why?

Asked by: 987 views SIMple Questions

I’m currently using MetroPCS and am relatively happy with it (I get 3G speeds, unlimited text, talk, & web on a LG Optimus M).

I ran across a SIMple Moble rep and he told me about this service so I’m thinking about switching. But I need to ask a few questions first.

  1. Is it really unlimited text, talk and web? My business is in the Yellow Pages, converted from a land line, and that means I get daily telemarketing calls. I do not want to pay for other people advertising.
  2. How responsive is tech support? Since I use the phone for a business, if I need tech help I need it fairly quickly. MetroPCS has lousy tech support, but the people at my local MetroPCS store are excellent, and always willing to help
  3. How reliable is the service? As I said, I use the phone for my business. MetroPCS has been on 24/7 for over a year now and I don’t want to switch to something that is unreliable
  4. How do I know if the signal is strong at my home/office? Metro gives me 1 bar indoors and 3 or 4 bars on the roof (which of course is impractical, but I’m thinking about an external antanna/repeater
  5. Other than the SIM chip, why is this service better than MetroPCS (list reasons please). I asked this question on the Android forum and got zero responses
  6. Will I be able to connect to the web on my office WiFi? This is important as it seems faster than 3G speeds.

I like the idea of the SIM chip, and I like the idea of being able to choose my phone, but I’m timid about switching when everything is OK to something that is either possibly better or worse. Better is good, but if it ends up worse, I don’t want to be sorry.

Second reason. My mother-in-law used to use Sprint until ilness in the family caused her phone bills to approach $200 per month. She switched to MetroPCS but in her apartment, the signal is weak and she gets dropped calls. So she also has a land line. If I switch to SIMple, I could then see if it works better in her apartment (she never had problems with Sprint inside here apt). She has great health challenges and needs reliable service.

I know that nobody can make this decision for me, but right now I’m dealing with something adequate and don’t want to go to something worse.

So if you can answer my questions I would greatly appreciate it.

Please tell me all the good things AND all the bad things about SIMple Mobile.

Thanks,

Bob “Notes” Norton

Bob your concern is very common on clients switching from one company to other, but there is not just one answer to that, we have many clients using SIMple Mobile service and we don’t get ANY complains about the service, except for those whom jump to a new company without asking first like you or also for those clients that abuse the service against the SIMple Mobile TOS (Terms of service), the best way that you can test it your self is by activating the 15 Days service, then if it work for you you can upgrade your plan to any other plan, and if it don’t server your needs you can cancel any time without cancelation fees.

Now lets answer your other questions:
    Q) Is it really unlimited text, talk and web?
    A) Service is unlimited under the Simple Mobile TOS, basically it means that you can use the service under “normal” bases. You may ask what’s is normal use… well basically Simple Mobile Service was designed for personal use, all other activities can trigger the abuse service policy. We just get 2 cases where Simple Mobile suspend the service for service abuse policy. One was a person that resell the service as a USA cell phone wholesale route, and the other was for hookup the phone as a GSM modem to a computer so it hit the bandwidth limit and trigger the SAP. It don’t just happen with Simple Mobile service, it is called Service Cap, and all prepaid wireless companies have it.

    Q) How responsive is tech support?
    A) Simple Mobile Customer service is good, but waiting time to get answer may vary depend on calls volume, also there is a lot of business offering help if you have any problem with your service. Remember that Simple Mobile will help with any supported phone device, if the phone is not on the Simple Mobile Supported Phone List you may search online or visit any Authorized Dealer for help.

    Q) How do I know if the signal is strong at my home/office?
    A) As I mention before the best and accurate way that you can do that is by trial the service. At this moment the $25 15 Days Unlimited Talk and Text, is the best way to test the service.

    Q) Other than the SIM chip, why is this service better than MetroPCS.
    A) Beside the SIM card advantage, other reason why people choose Simple Mobile is coverage, and the fact that they can use a bigger phone variety, GSM phones are easy to unlock, many other reason can be listed, but that also depend on the customer needs, the best reference is that none of our clients switch back to CDMA service after try a GSM phone.

    Q) Will I be able to connect to the web on my office WiFi?
    A) WiFi have nothing to do with SIMple Mobile Service, if the phone is WiFi capable then you can connect WiFi anywhere. When you connect the phone to WiFi you are NOT using your SIMple Mobile Data.

I hope those answers help u to make the right decision.

Thank you pinDiscount for your generous and informative answer. It’s good to hear from a dealer about these concerns. Especially one who deals with more than one product.

I need to find a local dealer who will be patient with me. The store I walked into had a guy who talked too fast, assumed I knew much more than I do, and didn’t listen to my questions or didn’t want to answer them.

Another question, is the coverage exactly like that of T Mobile? I know it piggy-backs on T-Mobiles network, so does it do so on the entire network?

I’m still a little timid about switching for the coverage reason. Sure I could get a 15 day trial, but that would require switching my number from MetroPCS to SIMple and if it doesn’t work around here back to Metro. I wish there was some kind of signal strength meter that would be for rent at phone stores. It would make the switch much more comfortable.

I’d also like to hear from some SIMple Mobile customers, especially if they switched from Metro.

    Thanks again,
    Bob

What is the 4G cap on the $60.00 plan and does it throttle down to 3G after the cap?

I’ve decided to stay with MetroPCS. Nobody can tell me why Simple Mobile is better, or what about SM is better? I like the idea of the SIM chip, but I hardly travel out of the country. If I still worked the cruise ships that would be a factor.

With MetroPCS I get unlimited talk/text/web with a 3G Android phone for $50/month and have had no coverage or service problems. I understand from the SIMPle salesman that 3G is all I can expect SIM to deliver in my area.

My mother-in-law has had some problems (“pilot error” mostly, she is old and has Parkinson’s) and the people at our local Metro store are pleasant, knowledgeable, and very helpful.

I can get a Metro 4G phone for the same price, but it throttles back after 1 gig of multimedia streaming (something I rarely do anyway). I might do that in the future, when my current phone gets long in the tooth.

I can get unlimited 4G at Metro for $60/month, but I do see where I personally need it.

I work at home and the computer is always on. If I want to stream audio or video, the computer speakers are much better and the screen is bigger.

Hello, I was a Simple Mobile customer and by accident I switched to Vonage in order to get international phone calls to Jamaica. After switching I was told by Vonage that they onle deal with landline and not cellphones. Vonage said that to get may number back to Simple Mobile it would have to be requested by simple mobile.
How do I go about getting simple mobile to make that request and switch my phone number from Vonage?
